Governor Daniels appointed a former Indiana University dean to examine whether current environmental laws are enough to protect the Great Lakes.
The move came after mounting criticism of Indiana’s decision to allow BP to increase the amount of pollution it discharges into Lake Michigan.
Daniels announced Monday that James Barnes, former dean of the School of Public and Environmental Affairs, would review the science and rules.
Daniels said he stands by the decision to allow the BP permit; however, he felt an independent evaluation was needed.
