UNDP and GOGC to start cooperation

Robert Watkins, UNDP Resident Representative and Alexander Khetaguri, General Director of the GOGC signed an official agreement to start a project in support of capacity development of the GOGC.

This 6.5 million USD project will support the GOGC to carry out its extended responsibilities in Gas and Oil sector. During the next 3.5 years, UNDP will help GOGC improve its internal structures and processes, establish international standard-based quality and environmental management systems within the organization through ISO certification and enhance qualification and expertise of GOGC staff through intensive trainings and provision of an advice from a group of national and international experts. In addition, the project envisages provision of targeted advice to the GOGC in technical and environmental issues in GAS and Oil sector.

“Partnership between UNDP and the GOGC is based on past successful cooperation and will build upon the best practices and lessons learned from the previous project, ” – Robert Watkins, UNDP Resident Representative in Georgia said.

“It will apply international standard-based principles and methods of capacity development towards addressing priority development needs of the GOGC. WE believe that our efforts will contribute to strengthening the energy security of the country and achieving broader strategic objectives in the energy sector, ” he added.

As part of its Energy and Environment program, UNDP has been supporting the energy sector in the country since 1996.
